Plan ahead to celebrate!

Activities you can host at your hospital and in your community

1. Acknowledge Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses in your hospital with a special recognition breakfast or luncheon. Create awards and share memorable moments.
2. Download this celebration poster to display in your lunch room and around your floor.
3. Invite a city official to tour your facility and see first hand the tremendous impact nurses have in the healthcare of children with cancer and blood disorders.
4. Encourage your local newspapers to feature the work pediatric hematology/oncology nurses in your community.  Explain the full extent of your work and demonstrate how your contributions extend beyond the hospital room.
5. Wear Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses Day promotional items throughout the day.  Promotional items are available in the APHON Book Store.
6. Host a fundraiser or community event that raises awareness of programs for children with cancer and blood disorders.  Perhaps those funds could be designated to send a child to camp or support special art programs and activities for patients during treatment.
7. Request a proclamation from your mayor/governor declaring September 8th as Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses Day.  (Sample proclamation is available.)
8. Write and distribute a press release announcing Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses Day to your local newspapers. (Sample press release.)
9. Take candid pictures of the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses in your department and create a staff photo album or framed photo for the floor.  Update it each year when new nurses come on staff.
10. Host a Chapter celebration on September 8th.
