Chapters

Rose Dunaway and Melody Watral of the North Carolina Chapter delivering food to the Food Bank

APHON has over 40 local chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Many local chapters participate in various community activities throughout the year to promote APHON’s purpose and vision. The South Florida, Louisville, and Boston chapters donated gifts and grocery store gift cards to families of patients being cared for at their institutions. The St. Louis, Texas Gulf Coast, and Maine chapters made monetary donations to families so they could purchase gifts and food. Food donations were made to area homeless shelters by the North Carolina, Boston, and South Florida chapters. The Arizona, Maine, Seattle, and Texas Gulf Coast chapters made food or toiletry donations to the Ronald McDonald House. The Greater Philadelphia chapter held a raffle with proceeds benefiting a child attending their summer oncology camp.

Many community outreach is done during the holiday season; however, there are families in need throughout the year. We encourage our local chapters to consider participating in community outreach year round. Some chapters make that a goal for the year. The North Carolina chapter plans on providing dinner to hospitalized patients and their families in the spring. The Texas Gulf Coast chapter is planning a diaper and clothes drive for a homeless shelter. Let us know what community outreach your chapter is doing by staying in contact with your local chapter vice chair.

4th Ronald McDonald House project titled, "Home Away from Home-The Other Emerald City". Members of the Seattle Chapter gave away toothbrushes, spa items, toothpaste, shampoos...items that helped make people feel at home.

Local chapters provide a great service to our nurse and allied professional members by offering opportunities for networking, professional development, and leadership. We consider local chapter involvement an important part of what makes APHON so special. In order to join a local chapter, you must also be a member of the APHON national association. We would love to feature your chapter events here and in the APHON Counts newsletter. Please send your photos with captions to Cheryl Rodgers.

If you're not already a member of your local APHON chapter, why not join today? Some chapter meetings and programs are available to nonmembers; please contact the appropriate chapter directly for more information (see below).
