    All,

I have a 4 year old with HbSS disease who is Caucasian. There is no previous family history, and the parents were unaware that they each carried HbS trait.  I know they would be very interested in meeting other families around the country in a similar situation.  This is a lovely family who struggles with outside parties (including ER’s in other towns) being aware of this child’s chronic illness, the fact that he looks so well, and the fact that he does not fit the typical racial picture of a child with sickle cell disease.  I thought I would reach out to see if anyone else out there has families in a similar situation that you think might be interested in corresponding with these really nice people.  They have been assertive and proactive in learning about their child’s illness.  I’d like to be able to provide support for them that thus far has been difficult to find.

    Thanks!
