I am a bit confused by the “appropriate” wording.  We have a criteria based flow chart.  We usually admit if ANC less than 200, but if greater than 200 and the ER thinks they look good, we culture, give antibiotics and send them home.

    We still admit them all.

We are currently looking at our policies and guidelines for admissions and fever and neutopenia and looking at possible management in the home.

I am wondering if any instuitions are not admitting appropriate neutropenic, febrile patient and if so, what is the criteria you use to keep them at home vs. hospital admission?

    Thank You!
