At University of Chicago – Comer Children’s Hospital, our APPs do lumbar punctures (and bone marrows) and administer IT chemotherapy. Providers must be credentialed to do so as listed as one of our privileges (we do these supervised by another APP or attending until competent) as well as chemotherapy certified.

We are working on streamlining our chemo policies with the rest of our institutions. As we are a pediatric hospital within an adult hospital, further more within an adult hospital system, our policies are seen by multiple other hospitals. Our APPs give IT chemo in the pediatric setting where as in adult they do not. We are reaching out to see if any other institutions have their APPs give IT chemo and if so, any guidelines or policies you follow surrounding that as we are seeing pushback from our adult colleagues about this process and will need to go through committees in order to get this added to our policy.
Thanks in advance!
