Can you share with me how you are administering PRBCs’ on your unit  for non-acute situations:

    • Over what period of time are you administering 1 unit of PRBCs. How do you determine the rate (i.e. divide the volume over 4 hours or by ml/kg/hr):  1st 15 min = 2.5 mL/Kg/hour; after 15 min and no s/s of reactions=5 mL/kg/hour; max rate = 250 mL/hour.  If the patient (i.e. new leuk) comes in with a low HgB each unit is transfused over 4 hours
    • Over what period of time are you administering 2 units of PRBCs.  How do you determine the rate for 2 units? Same as above (start over with each new unit)
