HI Lisa, We have a policy. This is what’s in our policy related to varicella. We also have it in a patient/family teaching sheet. See below. Let me know if you have any other questions. Caroline
Family members and visitors who have not had varicella or have not completed age-appropriate varicella immunization may not visit the inpatient HSCT unit.
Siblings and other children 12 years of age or younger are screened each day they visit for the presence of or recent exposure to communicable diseases according to the BCH Visitor Screening Policy.
Family and visitors are screened for recent receipt of live vaccines and excluded from visitation during the period of post-vaccination shedding (if applicable), as determined by attending physician and Infection Prevention and Control.
Infants who have not received the varicella vaccine and are <12 months of age are permitted to visit their siblings on the HSCT unit at the discretion of the inpatient attending physician provided:
Sibling is not in day care
Sibling has been screened according to BCH Visitor Screening Policies

Do you have policies on if non-immunized visitors are allowed on the stem cell unit? If so, would you be willing to share your policies?
