That is correct! Per USP800 chemo gowns are single use only

It is my understanding that USP 800 required us to move to 1-time use for chemo gowns.

    Hi all,
I am an RN on the pediatric hematology/oncology unit at The Children’s Hospital at TriStar Centennial. I was just having a discussion with my manager regarding the length of time for disposal of chemo gowns, as she’s thinking we may need to revise our current practice.
At present, we usually use chemo gowns for one shift per nurse per patient. For example, if we have a patient receiving multiple chemos in one shift, and the same nurse is hanging the chemo, that nurse rewears the same gown the whole shift. Between chemos when the gown is not being used, we usually hang it on our sharps bin.

We were discussing concerns over the safety of this practice for the nurse and the patient, when it comes to possible chemo exposure.

Do other facilities allow nurses to rewear the same chemo gown the entire day? If not, are they disposed of immediately or is there a length of time you consider the gown “good” for?
If you do use the same gown the whole shift, where do you store it? Do you have a designated area for the gown so patients cannot come into contact with it?

Thank you in advance for the information!
