At Rady’s we have been infusing cellular therapy products for several years by not removing the neutral displacement valve.  The RN does an aseptic valve change immediately before the CTP infusion, but we leave the valves on- we have had expected engraftment dates for WBC, Hgb, and platelets.  For CAR-T therapy, we do not remove the valve either, and have had expected results.

    thanks
    Sheila

At my institution we generally give cell therapy products including (BM, PBSC, and CAR T-cells) hub-to-hub to prevent damage to the cells. I was wondering if anyone could comment on whether their institution gives HSCT and CAR cells through a Clave, T-cap, or other blue connector or if your institution removes the cap and infuses cell therapy products hub-to-hub as we do?
