If we are just drawing coags we waste 6 mL from CVC and it is fine; if we are drawing blood cultures first (we discard the waste), not an issue

    Thanks,

Subject: Coagulation Testing off of Heparinized Central Lines

    Hi Everyone!

I’m wondering if anyone would be willing to share their institutions policies on drawing coagulation testing/ factor levels off of a heparinized central line. Currently, our policy is to draw these labs with a peripheral stick. Looking at the literature, it seems like this is kind of a muddy issue.

Any information would be very appreciated!
