    We utilize Ethyl Choloride spray on patients 3 years and older who require stat labs or PIVs.  We always give patients/families the choice as well and will use LMX if the PIV is not needed stat.  Some patients really like the spray while others do not but we always promote pain management strategies and we like having the options to give to the patients/families, especially if IV starts or labs are needed in a period of time that is not conducive to using a topic cream like LMX.
