    We do use ethyl chloride if there is not time for EMLA cream to work….we also use Buzzy (with or without cold), and child life.  We always encourage some time of analgesia for lab or IV starts.  We have a couple of kids who don’t like the cold feeling of ethyl chloride — but its always encouraged to use one of our options…….
