We also have a tutor.  She supports the entire Children’s Hospital and not just hem/onc.  We have a classroom that is on our Gen Peds/Hem/Onc floor. She also tutors children who cannot come to the classroom in their room.  She has several volunteers.  She focuses mostly on children who will be in the hospital > 2 wks. Our outpatients also come to school as needed depending on their situation. She does a lot of coordination between schools.

We have two teachers from the local Intermediate Unit assigned to our hospital.  They evaluate the needs of patients with lengthy or repeated admissions and either help with tutoring for general school work or coordinate with specific schools for individual patients to keep their educational progress on track.  They mainly work with inpatients but will sometimes take on outpatients who must remain near the hospital for frequent visits until they can return to their home school district.
Occasionally, when a child lives very close to the hospital, their own tutor from their home school district will continue working with them through hospitalizations.

We have a school teacher on staff.  He is able to contact the schools and obtain the assignments.
