We are in the process of starting our next platelet study and would like some feedback on standards of care at other institutions.

    1. What is your platelet threshold for these common procedures:
         – LP? No real threshhold- often use 20,000
         – Line placement? (Broviac)  75,000
         – Line placement? (PORT)    75000

    2. At what platelet level do you typically keep your brain tumor patients at? >30,000

    3. Is there any literature that guides your protocols? Do you follow evidenced-based practice?

Thank you in advance for your help in our platelet study. We hope to establish evidence-based guidelines here at Helen DeVos
Children’s Hospital that will be beneficial to all pediatric oncology patients.
