We allow them to shower if they desire, however, they must still have a CHG bath no more than 1 our later (in order for the skin pores to close). The shower does not negate the need for the CHG bath.

We are going to implement CHG bathing for all of our patients with central lines.  We have previously only done this in our PICU.  One of the questions we have been asked by the staff is what to do with those patients who prefer to have a daily shower.  What do other hospitals do about that? Do you let them shower and then do the CHG wipe or does the shower count for the cleansing and the CHG is not needed?  Would appreciate any helpful hints.  We know that some showers are better than others 🙂
