We typically print a shift strip for both AM and PM for all patients in our PICU which are then interpreted by the primary RN. We are less diligent about doing strips on those patients with no cardiac history, but are very strict on printing them for all of our heart kiddos and those on any drips/meds that can alter their ECGs.

For patients who are on a cardiac monitor (on any pediatric unit), is your practice to print strips at scheduled intervals and have nurses complete a strip interpretation? We are currently reviewing our guidelines and this is not our current practice, just curious to see what other children’s hospitals do. Thank you in advance for any feedback!
