    Hi Sherry and Cara,

At my hospital we check placement with the pH of gastric content on insertion. There is also a mark placed at the measurement that is visible at the opening of the nostril.
The placement of the NG is verified every four hours by nursing via the measurement mark. If that mark moves we recheck gastric content.
However, issues can arise when the patient has tube feeds running as it causes the pH to be too basic. If there is question of placement and gastric pH can not be obtained we get an xray to verify.
For families at home we teach to verify by the measurement mark and if the tube comes out at all to come to the Emergency room for replacement.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi Sherry,
This is new for us 🙂 starts tomorrow!
I believe the answers are in the power point. We are not having patients do PH testing at home.
