No that is not our current practice.  We teach and train caregivers to flush and heplock twice a day at home.  I haven’t done a lit search on this recently, but last I looked and per our PICC RN Team that was best practice last discussion.

What is your practice for sending patients home with a PICC line for those who are not needing medications at home (newly diagnosed leukemia etc,)?  Do you teach them to flush the lines at home?  Lately, some of our physicians have sent the patient home with return to clinic appointment in a week with no flushing in between. Is anyone else doing this?

    Thanks in advance,
    Kelly
