We use 3 for external (one for the insertion site and the other 2 for the skin) and 1 big one for PORTS. I think the NICU likes the 3 swabsticks packaged too as they only use 2.

This message has been cross posted to the following Discussions: Nurse Educators and APHON Open Forum . ——————————————- At our institution, we use 3 of the Solu-IV Chg/Alc to clean the skin prior to insertion of the gripper for VAD’S. We are in a general hospital and in our adult population they use 1 CHLORAPREP CHG/Alc swab to clean. I do not know the history of why we use 3 swabs as opposed to one swab but I am looking for feed back on what your institution does with regards to this skin prep. Thanks in advance for you feed back 🙂
