I do not have them take the APHON chemo/bio course but I do an all day Hem/Onc/SCT class for PICU and chemo safety is covered in that class.

    Hi Gina,

we have our PICU nurses take the APHON Chemo/Bio Course.  They are validated in their clinical skills via a 4 week rotation through the pedi heme/onc unit where they work with a clinical coach to administer care including chemotherapy to the patients.  they are then validated yearly along with the rest of the staff regarding their competence in administering chemotherapy.

    hope this helps.

please feel free to reach out should you have any questions.

Do you have any process or guide for educational requirements of PICU nurses who are not APHON Chemotherapy Providers but provide monitoring of patients who are receiving chemotherapy?

Do you have data or posters to share about implementation of education to PICU nurses?

I am looking to implement a new educational program for my PICU nurses. Currently they do not receive any formal education in orientation or as a yearly competency about chemotherapy. Any information shared is very helpful!

    Thank you!
