    Hi Michelle:

I know that the company states Spiros should not be used with Busuflan.  We have here however as we have never had an issue for several years.  Most of our infusions run over 3 hours.  How long are your infusions? The only thing we do not use Spiros with is high dose etoposide for SCT.

    Subject: Spiros and Busulfan Administration

    Hello from Phoenix,

We recently switched to Spiros. We’ve had two instances of exposure with Busulfan administration. On one, the Spiros came unscrewed from the end of the administration set, and we assumed user-error in placing the device.

On the second, however, the Busulfan seemed to degrade the Spiros itself. The valve inside the Spiros didn’t close and the system was completely open, spilling Busulfan out the end, even when not engaged to a luer connection.

For those of you who are using Spiros and give Busulfan, have you seen any of these issues and what have you done to correct this?

    Thank you so much!
    Michelle
