You can’t cut the patch but if you need half, place a tegaderm on half the patch so only half is absorbed. Some nurses also cover half with the cover you peel off before placement.

    Subject: 1/2 patch orders

    Hello,

We recently had an event with Scopolamine (1/2 patch was ordererd, cut, and applied to the patient).  At your Institution, do you allow for a 1/2 patch dose to be ordered? If so, how do you apply the 1/2 patch? Do you cut it? Do you cut 1/2 of the backing off? Do you place a Tegaderm down first and then apply 1/2 the patch to the Tegaderm? Please reply with policies or literature that support your practice.

    Thank you,
    Lauren
