You can’t cut the patch but if you need half, place a tegaderm on half the patch so only half is absorbed. Some nurses also cover half with the cover you peel off before placement.

We recently had an event with Scopolamine (1/2 patch was ordererd, cut, and applied to the patient). At your Institution, do you allow for a 1/2 patch dose to be ordered? If so, how do you apply the 1/2 patch? Do you cut it? Do you cut 1/2 of the backing off? Do you place a Tegaderm down first and then apply 1/2 the patch to the Tegaderm? Please reply with policies or literature that support your practice.
