We have a threshold of 20 x 109/ L for nasogastric tube insertion in our department. This threshold was reached via multidisciplinary consensus, I am not aware of any strong evidence base to this in the literature but would be interested if others have. Chris.

Recently I posted this question on the general APHON form and was not successful in hearing back from people, so I am trying again.
My question is….
Do you have a platelet level threshold for inserting a Nasogastric tube?
If so what is it?
If not, how do you decide the platelet level is a risk or not?
We would really value your responses! Mary Jean
