We have been doing bedside report for a number of years now.  We like most aspects of it, especially centered around line care-some CPS type things not so much.  We always have discussion about the central line (checking the dressing (intact, needle changed, bath and linen changed etc.)  This has really helped involve the parents and they often speak up.  It has helped hold our nurses accountable to the type of care that we expect and that we desire from the nurse reporting off.  If there are social concerns, we do that outside of the room. It has also helped us catch big discrepancies; for instance, pharmacy sent orders up for a 5 day round of chemo and the mother spoke up and stated that she was only here for one day.  We have had several really good catches because of parent involvement centered around procedures/expectations of scheduling etc.

Does anyone do Patient/Parent-centered nursing bedside handover?? If so, how do you like it compared to nurses doing handover at a computer/desk and would you welcome us contacting you to ask a few questions on logistics??

We are thinking of implementing this and would like some guidance! Thank you!
