We have a doc who prefers EMLA and one who uses Lidocaine injection.  I had two docs before and one used nothing (bc kid was sedated) and the other used lidocaine depending on the sedation used.

What is the practice in your institution when sending patients for lumbar puncture under sedation?  Is EMLA or some other topical anesthetic applied prior to sending the child to procedure?

    Thanks,

    Maritza
