    Hi,
BARD can send you teaching kits for RN practice and you can buy a Chester the chest and put that specific port in it so it is more realistic. We use a standard 22G 3/4 inch and we only have 3 kids who need a longer size and 1 who needs a shorter. Of course when port first in we use at least a 1 inch due to post op swelling.
    Hope this helps.

    Hello,
We have had a run on infiltrated ports.   While we are still investigating the reasons why, we suspect that perhaps the nurses are choosing too short of a needle length or after steroids the needle size is changing.  Do you have any teaching tools to help nurses identify the appropriate needle size?  Do you have any tips regarding accessing?  We use BARD power ports and they are significantly smaller in diameter than our previous ports.  Thanks.
