We do not routinely teach CVL dressings. We ensure they know what to do if a dressing becomes soiled or non-occlusive until a healthcare provider can re-dress. We teach CVL care in terms of scrubbing the hub, flushing (as appropriate) and have parents perform return demonstrations on a monthly basis, but do not teach cap changes or dressing changes.

Is it your standard to teach families to change their child’s central line dressings?
When do you start education?
Do you ask that they perform the dressing change regardless of being inpatient or at a scheduled outpatient appt?
