At Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters, we have a Hospital Wide Skills Day monthly where nurses from varied specialties have a 4 hour skills station type check off in small groups before rotating through, where we address the mandatory BBP/OSHA/restraints type things as well as any skills that are lower volume/higher risk or issues that were commonly noted in our incident reporting system over the past year.

Departamntally, we also hold an annual “March Madness” where that month’s staff meetings become a 2 hour focused HemeOnc skills/educational blitz for our unit staff. We use interested staff to plan and help run stations and they can earn credit toward their clinical advancement (CAP).

How do you handle the yearly check offs? What is your process? Skills labs/sign ups? Several times/year?

    Thanks,
