We do both for the first temp spike and then do CVC only for subsequent spikes.

Subject: Blood Cultures- Need for some quick benchmarking

    Hi,

I’m hoping to do some quick benchmarking to know what other centers techniques are when they need to collect a blood culture in the oncology population when there is a central line in place.  At your facility, do you collect cultures peripherally, through the central line, or both?  If you only collect cultures off the line, can you also share what practice is outside of the oncology specialty?

    Thank you!
