We are similar to everyone else – we try to see in the ambulatory clinic for the initial cultures and antibiotic.  If we are unable to to chair availability or safe staffing we refer to the ER or as a direct admit to the hospital based on the phone assessment.

    Hi Everyone,

Currently at our institution all sickle cell fever patients are referred to the ER for treatment. I was wondering if you could tell me if you treat your sickle cell fever patients in your outpatient clinic or if they are referred to the ER?

    Thanks
    Joanie
