Title: Data Collection in Clinical Trials: The Role of the Nurse
Presented By:
- Joan O’Brien Shea, DNP, RN, CPON
- Ashley Bailey-Torres, RN, BSN
Overview of Session: Presented at the 2025 Spring Education Exchange (SEE) this course presents Pediatric oncology patients frequently participate in clinical trials. Most of these trials are academic in nature and led by consortium groups aiming to improve treatment options and minimize late effects. The rapid development of oncology treatments in the past ten years has resulted in more pediatric patients participating in industry-sponsored registrational trials. To meet regulatory requirements, the data collected in these trials undergo a higher level of scrutiny and frequently require a larger amount of data be collected. Pediatric oncology nurses are in a unique position to ensure that data is collected accurately. During this brief session, we will review the key differences between academic and industry-sponsored trials and provide examples of best practices to ensure accurate data collection.
This Session will Explore:
- Differences Between Clinical Trial Types
- Regulatory and Data Collection Demands
- Best Practices for Data Collection
