What a joy it is to welcome you to our 35th Annual Conference and Exhibit held in beautiful Southern California. Walt Disney once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it!” APHON has certainly lived by that motto and we will be celebrating 35 years and all we have done with our past, our present, and, most importantly, our future as we gather together to continue the dream.

The variety of educational opportunities you will be able to sample this week is because of the astounding leadership of our program chair, Lisa Bashore, PhD RN CPNP CPON® and her dedicated team. They have worked diligently to put together a stellar program to highlight this year’s theme of “Advocacy, Passion, Hope, Opportunity, and Nurturing,” which is at the heart of every pediatric hematology/oncology nurse.

Please take advantage of everything the conference has to offer, starting with our in-depth preconference sessions. Once again, Children’s Oncology Group (COG) will share its expertise with us through the very successful COG educational track. Opening Keynote Speaker Selinza Mitchell will show us how our “fingerprints” leave a mark on everyone we touch. Our Closing Keynote Jim Doherty will demonstrate through humor why we chose to be healers in the first place. In between the keynotes, the topics and presenters slated for our educational concurrent sessions are all phenomenal. Be sure to visit the exhibit hall and posters and take the time to relax at the APHON Booth and network with your colleagues. I would like to thank all of our presenters for sharing their expertise with us.

We have much to celebrate this year! Thursday, September 8 is the 2nd Annual Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses Day. Let me be the first to thank you for your service and wish you a very, very happy day! On Friday, Marilyn Hockenberry will share the art and science of our craft and APHON’s amazing 35-year legacy. On Friday night we commemorate our legacy with a party! I hope you have planned to stay through Sunday when we participate in a CureSearch Walk.

Whatever your plans, I encourage you to take time to learn, to explore, to network with one another, have fun, and most of all…celebrate you!
