APHON is currently seeking committee volunteers, special interest group co-leaders, and subject matter experts.
All volunteers should be current APHON members and maintain their membership in good standing for the duration of their term.

Introducing Special Interest Groups
We’re launching Special Interest Groups (SIGs) — informal, topic-based communities where members with a shared clinical interest can connect, share resources, and learn from one another.
The following SIGs will launch in January 2027:

Nurse Educators
Nurse Coordinators/Navigators
At this time, we are seeking SIG Co-leaders who are welcoming, curious, and collaborative and enjoy connecting others and encouraging meaningful conversation. Senior-level expertise is not required—just a willingness to listen, engage members, share ideas, and help create an inclusive community where everyone feels valued.
Special Interest groups leads do not have a set time period, but the initial service will begin on January 1, 2027, and the lead should plan on a one to three-year time commitment.
Calling all Subject Matter Experts
APHON relies on the knowledge and experience of its members to create high-quality educational content, resources, and initiatives that support our nursing specialty. Whether expertise lies in clinical practice, education, leadership, research, or advocacy, there are many ways to contribute.
Subject matter experts may serve as content writers or reviewers, course developers, discussion facilitators, speakers, presenters, or contributors to special projects such as collaborative statements and guidelines.
Opportunities vary in scope and time commitment, allowing volunteers to participate in ways that best fit their interests and availability.
The term of service for special projects is based on the need. Some may be as short as one week, others up to six months.
Serving on a Committee
APHON is a volunteer-driven organization led by members who lend their expertise to the association. The work of APHON committees is directed by the APHON Board of Directors and may shift based on the priorities of the association and alignment to the strategic plan. All APHON Committees begin their terms every January and each committee member serves 1 term of 3 years, with a maximum of up to two terms consecutively.
The term of service for new committee members will be from January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2029. Existing committee members eligible to serve a second three-year term must submit an application for consideration.

ACE Center Committee
Seeking volunteers with:
An interest in contributing to the creation of robust opportunities for continuing education for pediatric hematology/oncology nurses. Candidates should have a passion for education of nurses throughout the professional spectrum, and experience with applying (or open to learning) principles of adult education, learning engagement, and evaluating learning outcomes.
Committee Members should expect to:
Participate in monthly meetings to plan and execute continuing education activities, including webinars, CE activities for JOPHON articles, and other learning opportunities. Committee members will contribute to planning activities, developing learning outcomes and evaluations, and give feedback on all committee work.
Advocacy Committee
Seeking volunteers who:
Are interested in Advocacy and have a general idea of how to advocate on the local and national level. Early careerists are encouraged to apply.
Committee members should expect to:
Stay abreast of legislative issues that impact our patients and families as well as us as nurses. Be ready to spread the word and encourage nurses to contact their representatives.
Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Program Committee
Seeking volunteers who:
Hold a Chemo/Bio Instructor status (Required) – preferably with >1-2 years with experience and comfortable teaching all sections of the course.
Prefer someone with experience writing, editing, or creating curriculum, or willingness to learn with mentoring.
Bedside, advanced practice, educators, case managers and professional development specialists are all welcome to apply. The committee desires representation of small, medium and large centers in order to represent the needs of the general membership.
Committee members should expect to:
Participate in quarterly instructor town halls and expect to commit to creating content and hosting 1-2x per 3 year term.
Attend virtual meetings held every other month. (60 mins each)
Create, write and peer review content and test questions & answers for the Chemo/Bio Renewal packet. (every other year)
Moderate (1) 9-hour class day of the APHON-hosted virtual chemo/bio provider course (financial stipend provided)
Volunteer to teach section(s) of chemo/bio virtual provider course, if needed. (May need reliance from committee members periodically to fill course needs.)
Conference Program Planning Committee
Seeking volunteers who:
Are early careerists and mid-to-late careerists who may hold BSN, MSN, or PhD degrees. Nurses may hold any role within oncology or hematology. The committee is holding a position specifically for a bedside nurse.
Committee members should expect to:
Develop content for the annual conference committee through evaluation reviews from the previous conference. Identify priority topics and speakers for Keynotes and general sessions. Committee members review abstracts, select concurrent sessions, and determine town hall and professional development forums.
Evidence-Based Practice/Research Committee
Seeking volunteers with:
Experience in evidence-based practice and/or research. The committee’s preference is for members with either a DNP degree or a PhD degree or a student in one of those programs. The committee welcomes first-time volunteers and/or early careerists.
Committee members should expect to:
Meet virtually once a month. Committee work is focused on promoting EBP projects and research grants. Expect to conduct reviews of grant applications, promote nominations to and select award winners for EBP and Research, participate in a task force to develop clinical guidelines, and develop a concept and plan for an educational presentation at our annual conference.
Time commitment is at least 1 hour a month and in the spring up to several hours in a month.
Local Chapter Committee
Seeking volunteers who:
Are interested in supporting APHON Local Chapters as their liaison. The volunteer should have previous chapter leadership experience, whether at an APHON local chapter or another nursing organization, in roles such as, but not limited to, president, vice president/president-elect, secretary, treasurer, board member, fundraising chair, etc. Experience with chapter leadership, nonprofit organizations, governance, budgeting, operations, strategic planning, or other business-related functions is valuable and welcomed. Individuals with an understanding of how small organizations operate can provide important perspectives that help chapters thrive. Early careerists are encouraged to apply.
Chapter leaders currently serving on their local chapter board should not apply, as the liaison is there to support you in your current role.
Committee members should expect to:
Attend monthly meetings online, expect to lead a section of the Local chapter annual business meeting and local chapter strategies meeting at the APHON Annual Conference. Members are expected to review 5-7 local chapter reports during the months of March – April and hold post-report meetings with their local chapters to provide advice, strategic suggestions, and offer support to ensure their success. Liaisons are expected to maintain constant communication and a working relationship with their local chapter and ensure they are meeting the success metrics in place to meet the state filings and APHON requirements of their assigned chapters.
Patient & Family Education Committee
Seeking volunteers who:
Are a neuro-oncology nurse with a few years of experience. The committee has observed a large need for development of new medication factsheets and updating existing ones.
Committee members should expect to:
Assist with updating and developing APHON medication factsheets and disease handbooks, written in layman’s terms or a 6th grade reading level.
Provide important insight and knowledge into education materials designed for patients, their families, and the fellow nurse.
The committee member may also seek assistance from specialized peers and does not need to be the expert for the assigned content.
Professional Development Committee
Seeking volunteers who:
Are passionate about helping pediatric hematology and oncology nurses grow throughout all stages of their careers. Nurses with a BSN; nurses from small or large institution as the committee’s matrix has members from medium-sized institutions. Individuals who enjoy mentoring, professional recognition programs, and creating meaningful learning opportunities for colleagues are encouraged to apply.
The committee welcomes a mix of experienced leaders and emerging professionals who are interested in advancing the profession and supporting fellow APHON members.
Committee members should expect to:
Committee members help develop professional development resources and opportunities for APHON members, including the leadership course held at the APHON Annual Conference, lead townhall-style discussions, coordinate and/or lead quarterly webinars, member engagement activities, and review FAPHON applications via a subcommittee.
Members participate in one monthly virtual meeting and collaborate with committee members to support professional growth within the APHON community.
Important Dates to Know
The Willingness to Serve form is open from September 25 – October 23, 2026.
Interested volunteers should ensure their APHON HQ membership is current by October 30, 2026.
All volunteer applications will be reviewed by their respective committees during November.
All communications, whether volunteers were placed on committees or not, will go out no later than December 11, 2026.
All volunteers serving on committees during 2027 will be required to join the APHON Committee Kick-Off call, held in January 2027.
