Course Overview: This course discusses the benefits of creative art therapy for adolescents and young adults (AYAs) living with advanced cancer, highlighting its role in enhancing self-expression, reducing symptom burden, and improving psychosocial care. It describes how objects in participants’ drawings symbolize hope and detail’s common themes and settings depicted in their artwork, such as familiarity and nature. The article also emphasizes the importance of creative art therapy across various stages of care and identifies limitations of the study, including selection bias. 

Learning Outcomes:  

  • List the benefits of creative art therapy for AYAs living with advanced cancer.  
  • Describe objects that embodied hope for the study sample.  
  • Formulate recommendations for psychosocial care of AYAs living with advanced
