Course Overview: This course explores the evidence surrounding the use of weighted blankets as a nonpharmacologic intervention to reduce anxiety in pediatric oncology patients during outpatient chemotherapy infusions. Participants will evaluate current research on the effectiveness of weighted blankets in alleviating anxiety, analyze findings related to improvements in quality of life, and apply this knowledge to enhance psychosocial care in pediatric oncology settings. Emphasis will be placed on integrating nonpharmacologic strategies, such as weighted blankets, to support the holistic well-being of children receiving oncology care.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Evaluate the evidence on the impact of weighted blankets on anxiety in pediatric oncology patients. 
  • Analyze research findings related to the influence of weighted blankets on quality of life in pediatric oncology care. 
  • Apply knowledge of nonpharmacologic interventions, such as weighted blankets, to support psychosocial care in pediatric oncology patients.
