The primary resource designed to educate pediatric hematology/oncology nurses in caring for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood disorders is now available! The Foundations course is designed to teach nurse learners how common pediatric hematological and oncological diagnoses are presented, along with the clinical nurse’s role in implementing treatment approaches. Supportive care principles are also introduced. The course provides case studies providing clinical scenarios that are included to enhance the learning process. This course emphasizes the following:

  • Core foundational concepts, which are required before learning specific institutional practices.
  • A multi-disciplinary team approach and plan of care.
  • Providing psycho-social support and education for patients, parents, and family members about what to do/expect during their care

This course contains 21 modules that can be used as individual lectures or as part of a comprehensive course taught by a nurse educator/instructor. The actual length of each module can be modified depending on the audience, presentation detail, and discussion degree.
