APHON Members in the News
APHON members are the world’s leading pediatric hematology/oncology nurse clinicians, nurse educators, and nurse scientists with an interest in optimizing outcomes for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and blood disorders and their families. Meet our 2025 International Nurse Scholarship Awardees

Obedia Antony Ngoka is a nurse leader who currently serves as a Block Manager and Oncology Nurse Specialist in the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. In addition to a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Mr. Ngoka earned a Master’s degree in oncology nursing. Committed to promoting research and evidence-based practice in pediatric oncology in sub-Saharan countries and expanding the knowledge of nursing staff, he applied for the APHON scholarship package to exchange ideas and further enhance the knowledge base of the MNH nursing team. With a deep interest in advancing the quality of pediatric oncology care through nursing education, Mr. Ngoka is committed to sharing the information from his APHON scholarship. As a trusted nursing education leader, he will share his knowledge with the assistance of his skills and experience in mentorship, course lectures, and hands-on teaching.

Jaqueline Runyora is a dedicated pediatric nurse from Kenya with over 18 years of experience at Gertrude Children’s Hospital, including 3 years as a nurse lead. She successfully led clinical improvement projects that enhanced pediatric care and hospital processes. She conducted training simulations and earned multiple awards, among these – Best Nurse in the trauma and emergency unit. Jacqueline played a key role in achieving Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) in 2019.
Jaqueline completed a Master’s Degree in Nursing with a specialty in pediatric nursing in 2004.
She actively served on several hospital committees, including the Quality Assurance Committee, the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, the Oncology Committee, and the Patient Centered Care Committee.
Jacqueline is passionate about ensuring that patients receive exceptional care and have a positive, supportive experience during their most critical moments of their lives.
