APHON has expressed support for the Nurse Corp Tax Parity Act of 2023, which would create parity in federal programs and support for current and future nurses who receive Nurse Corp funding.

As member of the Alliance for Childhood Cancer, APHON signed onto a letter in support of the Accelerating Kids’ Access to Care Act, which would create an alternative opt-in pathway for providers in good standing to enroll in multiple state Medicaid programs, allowing them to provide essential, time-sensitive care to children with special health care needs.

APHON has expressed support for the PREVENT HPV Cancers Act, which would provide for a public awareness campaign with respect to human papillomavirus.

APHON signed onto a letter thanking Congressman Lawler and Senator Warren for introducing the United States Cadet Nurse Corp Service Recognition Act of 2023. This bill would recognize service as a member of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps between July 1, 1943, and December 31, 1948, as active-duty service, qualifying these individuals to certain benefits afforded to veterans.

APHON continued its support of the Improving Care and Access to Nurses Act by signing onto a letter to the sponsors. This bill would eliminate barriers to the Medicare and Medicaid programs that prevent APRNs from practicing to the full extent of their training.

Through the Alliance for Childhood Cancer, APHON sent funding letters to House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Defense supporting the Department of Defense’s (DOD) Peer Reviewed Cancer Research Program (PRCRP). The request includes an increase to $130 million for PRCRP and the continued inclusion of pediatric brain tumors and neuroblastoma as eligible topics of funding under the program.

APHON, in conjunction with the Nursing Community Coalition, sent a letter urging passage of the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act. Workplace violence is an issue of growing concern for the nursing workforce.

Along with 54 other organizations of the Nursing Community Coalition, APHON has expressed support to the House and Senate sponsors of the National Nursing Workforce Center Act of 2023. This bill would offer an important step forward in gather additional data on the needs within the nursing workforce.

APHON joined the Patient Quality of Life Coalition (PQLC) requesting support from House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies to prioritize a Palliative Care, Trans-Institute Strategy led by the National Institute of Aging in order to increase access to quality palliative care and appropriate, effective pain management.

Along with 62 other member organizations of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC), APHON signed onto a letter urging Congress to take action on top appropriations and legislative priorities that impact nursing education, workforce, practice, and research. This letter coincided with the celebration of National Nurses Week 2023.
