Dear Congresswoman Blunt Rochester, Senator Merkley, Congresswoman Kim, and Senator Tillis:
On behalf of the 55 undersigned organizations representing the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC), we would like to thank you for introducing the National Nursing Workforce Center Act of 2023 (H.R.2411/S.1150). The NCC is a cross section of education, practice, research, and regulation within the nursing profession representing Registered Nurses (RNs), Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs),1 nurse leaders, students, faculty, and researchers. Together, we support investment in the ongoing work of our state nursing workforce centers.
Supporting our current and future nursing workforce is imperative. To do that, we not only need to bolster existing Nursing Workforce Development programs, but also better understand the needs of the profession. Nursing workforce centers help fill those gaps. In fact, 40 nursing workforce centers advance the profession through a data driven approach throughout the country.2 These centers conduct local research, publish reports on nursing supply, demand, and education, and share best practices.3 However, not every state has a center and those centers that exist do not always have the funding essential for their work. That is why the National Nursing Workforce Center Act is an important step forward as we look to gather additional data on the needs within the nursing workforce and of health care throughout the nation.
As we continue support our nursing workforce, bills like the National Nursing Workforce Center Act of 2023 are significant to understanding the needs of the profession and the communities they serve.
If the Nursing Community Coalition can be of any assistance to you or your staff, please do not hesitate to contact the coalition’s Executive Director, Rachel Stevenson, at rstevenson@thenursingcommunity.org.
